It all began in a place close to Ulm in 1880, as a small felt elephant which was originally conceived as a pin cushion became a popular toy among children.
From then on the triumphal onslaught of the small cuddly creatures could no longer be stopped. After the turn century these bears got their later name from the US president Theodore Roosevelt, who was known as "Teddy" to his friends.
Today you find their descendants everywhere. They occupy a special place in children rooms on top of closets and in small beds. We encounter them while on vacation where they watch us with curiosity from backpacks and handbags. They sit in living rooms on the couch or on a swing in gardens.
Wether child-size animals, small soft friends for cuddling or recently funny figures, the well-known teddy bear and toy hedgehog have long ago gained brothers and sisters. Thus, we encounter nowadays storks, rabbits, tigers, chimpanzees, moles as wellas ducks, birds, hippos, hamsters, small lambs, baby lions and many other small creatures of our world.
