Products description

Postcard-book with 30 Cards to pick out.

Gauguin
Paul Gauguin was born in Paris in 1848 and spent his childhood in Peru. As a young man he went to sea and made his way to a considerable fortune as a stockbroker. Quite late, at the age of 25, he came round to painting. At first Gauguin achieved some success within the circle of Impressionists. After a restless life of wandering, his search for originality and unadulterated nature, Gauguin came to the island of Tahiti. From this time forth the life of the natives, their body language and gracefulness as well as the beauty of the Polynesian countryside, offered him rich inspiration for his visionary painting with its flat compositions and glowing colours. Typified by their unmistakable style, the pictures which resulted during this time made Gauguin world-famous albeit not until after his death in the year 1903.
The 30 selected motives of this book of postcards show a cross section of Gauguin’s creations, the efficacy of which as a glorification of the original harmony of man and nature is still unbroken even today.
