Tulips
Tulips can be found virtually everywhere. In gardens and parks, growing wild at the edge of meadows and planted in fields extending as far as the horizon. As colorful decorations they frequently stand in living rooms, inviting lounges and home kitchens. Moreover, we are delighted when close friends give us a bouquet of tulips as a small token of their appreciation. Their magnificent large petals, thir scent and colors enchant us.
These bulbous flowers of the Liliaceae family with approx. 60 species originally came from the Near East, southern Europe and North Africa. During the 16th century, the first tulips came as ornamental plants to Central Europe. In no time at all they spread across the entire continent like no other plant. In Holland became the “in” flower of the 17th century. By 1629 there were more than 140 varieties while were traded at the tulip exchange in Amsterdam.
Since then the tulip has not lost a bit of popularity. Quite the reverse: They are in demand like never before with more that thousand different varieties, coming in an almost endless array of scents and colors.
