Mountain colors
High mountainshave far more to offer at second glance than only mountains, snow and crisp air.
As the most majestic mountain range in Europe, the Alps provides an ideal habitat for flora and fauna extending almost 1200 kilometers in length and serving as a climate divide between Central and Southern Europe.
Above the timberline thrive plants which have adapted to the extreme weather conditions. Hidden frequently in crevices or on sunny spots sheltered from the wind, they grow just like in expansive alpine pastures, next to crystal-clear streams or along hiking trails. And who does not know them, the carline thistles, alpine gentians, dwarf alpine roses, edelweiss or even lady's slippers. With the splendid colors of their blossoms, they attract not only insects. Even we stop in our tracks to take in these breathtaking beauties against the barrenness of the mountains.
They are praised in many songs, described in the many stories and legends surrounding the mountains and their inhabitants. And thus they are an integral part of the Alps like the meadows, the streams and the snowcapped peaks.
