Lavender
The stony regions of Southern Europe are home to the bushy purple plants with the ringing name lavender. In the Provence, the largest and most well known region in which the lavender can be found, the violet blue blossoms color the hillside and give the landscape a purple accentuation throughout the summer, a powerful contrast to the yellow of the sunflower fields beside them. The knee high lavender plants grow in accurate rows and are only ever interrupted in their orderliness by stone houses or single olive trees. The typical scent of the lavender is carried through the balmy air. This aroma is commonly used in highly concentrated form, the lavender oil, by the fragrance industry. Dried lavender, on the other hand, is usually packed into little sacks, placed amongst closing in drawers and cupboards; the clothing later retains that typical fresh lavender smell. Whoever has managed to see the astonishing violet of the lavender fields will rediscover this sense of beauty in these aesthetic photographs. Awe inspiring landscapes with their magical mix of light and color will certainly catch the viewer's eye.
