Postcard-book with 30 Cards to pick out.
It can be found in big cities, small towns, open nature and idyllic parks – the bridge. Whether for pedestrians, bicycles, cars or trains: the bridge always serves man as a link. Fitting more or less harmoniously into the scenery, it can be found in any height, width and length. Depending on aim and object, bridges are placed into the landscape in order to overcome obstacles: a romantic wooden bridge leads across a splashing stream, a daring suspension bridge stretches over a wide river, a vertiginous steel-bridge runs across an enormous gorge, and a massive concrete-bridge stretches across railway tracks.
Sometimes as an architectural miracle or a technical revolution, sometimes as an antique remnant of the Romans – bridges also write history. Already during antique times “bridges were built“ from bank to bank. At the beginning still in the form of primitive beams, in Middle Eastern countries later as swinging suspension bridges and finally in the shape of the semicircular vaulted stone-bridges of the Romans, who proved to be masters in the art of bridgebuilding. Today, especially suspension bridges impress with their breathtaking lengths and heights.
Besides mere function, the bridge is also an ancient symbol: that for the overcoming of conflicts, of a transition from the old to the new.
The thirty picture cards of this postcardbook show the diversity and characteristic beauty of different countries and epochs.
