Protection and Decoration
Doors are expressive mediators between inside and outside. They either grant or refuse entrance, open or bar contact between people. Wide-open doors in houses, guest houses, churches or stores signalise a warm welcome at that moment. We are asked to enter. Closed doors offer protection, give those living behind them the opportunity to withdraw and remain undisturbed.
Whether opened wide, ajar or closed, doors always relate something about the walls and their inhabitants. They tell us stories about their origin, age and the craftmanship that went into them. Whether smooth or decorated, one-piece or multipart, made of wood, iron or steel, combined with glass and ornamental fittings, often it is the almost inconspicuous details and their immediate surroundings with regard to the house, stepsand garden that
fascinate us most. The lovingdesign and care allows us to look at the essence of those living behind those doors.
